On 14 November 2025 Dundas Lawyers achieved the gold level of the SMB1001 cybersecurity standard.

SMB1001 is a multi-tiered cyber security certification standard for small and medium-sized businesses produced by Dynamic Standards International (DSI) that is updated every year to keep pace with the fast-changing cyber environment.

SMB1001 gold level certification requires businesses to implement twenty-three (23) controls across five (5) domains:

  • technology management;
  • access management;
  • backup and recovery;
  • policies, processes and plans; and
  • education and training.

Why SMB1001 gold level certification matters

Queensland Law Society notes that SMB1001 offers small and medium-sized practices a clear and achievable framework for cyber resilience. Law firms have an ethical duty to take reasonable steps to protect confidential client information and ensure their systems are secure. QLS encourages its’ members to aim for SMB1001 gold level certification as a reasonable standard for robust cybersecurity and professional assurance. Achieving SMB1001 gold level certification demonstrates that a firm has established strong cyber security controls, reducing exposure to attacks and providing tangible evidence of due diligence to insurers, clients and regulators.

What this means for Dundas Lawyers

By meeting these controls, Dundas Lawyers has shown that it has embedded best-practice cybersecurity into its technology management, access controls, backup strategy, documented processes and staff education. The certification process also provided a structured way to test incident-readiness, improve documentation and engage staff in ongoing security awareness.

A natural extension of our Uncommon Nous®

Dundas Lawyers is known for fusing legal excellence, business acumen and forward-thinking innovation. Since its’ establishment in 2011 the firm has built a reputation for client-focused service underpinned by what it calls Uncommon Nous®. Achieving SMB1001 gold level certification complements this philosophy by embedding rigorous cyber security practices into our day-to-day operations.

In line with our Blood Sweat and Years® culture, we invest in systems and technology that empower our team. Working through the SMB1001 gold level certification gave us an opportunity to further enhance our digital infrastructure, from modern MFA protections to incident response planning. The SMB1001 gold level certification will also help Dundas Lawyers’ clients as many larger enterprises now require their legal and professional service providers to hold a recognised cyber certification. QLS notes that adopting SMB1001 helps law practices protect client information, reduce exposure to cyber-attacks and build trust through verified proactive security.

Looking ahead

Cyber threats are constantly evolving, and SMB1001 is designed to evolve with them. DSI updates the standard annually, meaning firms holding SMB1001 gold level certification need to review and refresh their controls each year. Dundas Lawyers will continue to treat cyber security as an integral part of our practice. We will review new guidance from DSI and QLS and adjust our policies and technology to stay ahead of emerging threats. Our SMB1001 gold level certification sits alongside our commitment to provide cutting-edge legal services in intellectual property, technology and corporate law.
